O'Reilly, Rooney, Messi nominated for goal of year

American forward Heather O'Reilly is the only woman nominated for the Puskas Award for FIFA goal of the year, among 10 finalists along with Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi.

O'Reilly was nominated for her 25-yard goal against Colombia in the first round of the Women's World Cup on July 2.

Rooney was picked for his bicycle kick in a Premier League match against Manchester City on Feb. 12, and Messi for his goal against Arsenal in a second-round, second-leg Champions League match on March 8, when he flicked up and over onrushing goalkeeper Manuel Almunia before volleying the ball into the net.

Also nominated were Mexico's Giovani Dos Santos for a floated chip shot over American goalkeeper Tim Howard in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final; Santos' Neymar for a goal on a solo run through the Flamengo defense; Inter Milan's Dejan Stankovic for a 50-yard volley against Schalke in the Champions League; AC Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a Serie A goal against Lecce; and Lokeren's Benjamin De Ceulaer for a Belgian league goal against Bruges.

Two more overhead kicks featured: by Julio Gomez for Mexico against Germany at the Under-17 World Cup, and defender Lisandro Lopez in an Argentine league match for Arsenal against Olimpo.

Users of FIFA.com and francefootball.fr websites can vote until Dec. 5. The winner of the award, named after Hungarian great Ferenc Puskas, will be announced Jan. 9.
