Aston Villa's attempts to hire Paul Lambert as manager have been delayed after Norwich rejected his resignation.
Lambert, who guided Norwich to a 12th-place finish in the Premier League this year, is Villa's choice to replace the fired Alex McLeish.
Norwich said in a statement Thursday that ''we have fought hard to keep Paul ... and have not accepted his resignation whilst discussions with another club are taking place.''
Villa made an official approach to Norwich on Wednesday to talk to Lambert.

If Lambert leaves, Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is among the contenders to replace him at Norwich.
