No major glitches in 1st match at WCup stadium
Authorities say the Arena Fonte Nova has passed its first test for the Confederations Cup, hosting a local derby without major glitches.
Vitoria defeated Bahia 5-1 on Sunday to open the new venue in the northeastern city of Salvador, marking the inauguration of the third World Cup stadium in Brazil.
Local organizers in Bahia state said in a statement that there were ''no incidents'' during the match.
The Fonte Nova is one of six stadiums which will be used in June's Confederations Cup, the World Cup warm-up tournament. The venue will hold 50,000 fans, but only 40,000 tickets were sold for Sunday's match.
Authorities delivered the arena on Friday, a few weeks after promised by local organizers.
Local media reported there was still some unfinished work at the venue Sunday.
