Ramon Zommer got the first in the 40th minute before Bjorn Vleminckx grabbed a second for the hosts on the stroke of half-time. Although Stef Nijland got a late consolation for Willem II, the loss leaves them six points adrift of safety in the relegation play-off places. After a slow start to the game, it was Willem II who had the first chances of the game, with Nijland crossing for Frank Demouge in the 21st minute, only for his header to go wide left. Nijland then crossed again to find Sergio Zijer all alone in front of goal, but he could not keep his shot down. Those misses proved costly as NEC took control. Jens Janse had to make a good block to keep Erton Fejzullahu's shot away from danger before Patrick Pothuizen volleyed just wide of the target. The breakthrough came when Vleminckx found Zommer who fired a low shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Maikel Aerts and into the bottom corner. NEC then doubled their lead when Zommer's shot was blocked but Vleminckx turned in the rebound in a crowded penalty area. NEC continued to push in the second half, with Jeffrey Sapong sending a pair of good chances wide within moments of one another. Willem did not have an attempt on goal in the second half until six minutes from time, but Gabor Babos was equal to Demouge's shot. They got some consolation three minutes into injury time when the referee missed a handball from Gerson Sheotahul, allowing him to find the run of Nijland who slotted home.
