Nice gave their survival hopes another big lift after beating Bordeaux 2-1 to make it back-to-back victories in Ligue 1.

First-half goals from Luciano Monzon and Abraham Gneki Guie put Nice in charge and although Bordeaux halved the deficit midway through the second period through Marc Planus, the visitors held on for the victory.

Nice, who ended a run of seven competitive games without a win by beating Caen last time out, moved out of the relegation zone with the triumph, although only on goal difference.

For Bordeaux, the defeat is their second on the trot after previously taking 13 points from a possible 15 in Ligue 1, and hits their hopes of challenging for a top-three finish.

Both sides had chances to net in the opening 10 minutes, Kafoumba Coulibaly being denied by home goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso before Bordeaux full-back Benoit Tremoulinas fired a far-post volley inches wide.

It was Nice who took the lead though, with Monzon slotting home from the penalty spot following a foul by Michael Ciani on Anthony Mounier.

Nice had a chance to double their lead in the 34th minute but Carrasso was equal to Mounier's shot.

However, the visitors only had to wait another four minutes to celebrate a second goal as Gneki Guie latched onto Didier Digard's ball over the top before firing past Carrasso from close range.

Bordeaux were struggling to create much to worry visiting goalkeeper David Ospina and Nice almost added a third goal in the 61st minute when Monzon's well-struck effort drew another save from Carrasso.

The home side got a foothold back into the match five minutes later though when they made it 2-1.

Obraniak sent over a free-kick from near the corner flag and Ciani's header reached Planus, whose right-foot volley found the back of the net.

That goal sparked Bordeaux into action and they immediately went in search of an equaliser.

However, Ospina did well to keep out efforts from Nicolas Maurice-Belay and Cheick Diabate before Bordeaux's final hope of an equaliser saw Diabate's 86th-minute shot skim the post and go wide.
