Newcastle postpones tribute to Gary Speed

Newcastle's planned memorial tribute to its former midfielder Gary Speed has been delayed two weeks to Dec. 17 so his wife can attend.

Newcastle intended to honor the Wales manager, who was found dead at his home on Sunday, by having a Welsh tenor sing at St. James' Park prior to Saturday's English Premier League match against Chelsea, before conducting a minute's applause.

However, Louise Speed requested Newcastle's tribute be postponed because she is attending another at the ground of Leeds, the club with whom Speed won the English title in 1992.

Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias says ''Louise has been very touched by the plans and expressed a desire to be present.''
