The Nigeria international made a 20-minute cameo appearance for the Toffees in their dramatic 3-3 draw against Manchester United on Saturday. Although the striker is not fit enough to play 90 minutes for Everton, Moyes is sure he will eventually deliver goals for the club this season. He told the Liverpool Echo: "The Yak is fit but he certainly couldn't complete a game at this moment. "He is in need of more training and more game practice. But what Yak has is a goal in him. "We still need Yak to make a contribution to the team and team play." The 27-year-old's career at Goodison Park has been disrupted by a year on the sidelines following a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in 2008 and his first-team opportunities have been restricted ever since. However, Yakubu's first league appearance of this season at the weekend has given his manager hope. "The Yak's mindset is fine now. He's never been a problem boy and has always been a good lad. "It's up to him to try and get himself to the best condition he thinks he can be in and get back to the goalscoring which in the main he has done in the Premier League." Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta hopes the club can kick-start their season when they take on Newcastle at Goodison this Saturday. The 28-year-old hopes to avoid a repeat of the late drama against United, when the Toffees scored twice in injury-time. He said: "We don't want to do that against Newcastle, we want to go and start properly and get the goals early. Then we can dominate the game as we've been doing. "We're making mistakes in our box and we're not putting it in the net in the other. "If we get that right throughout the game I think we can keep doing really good things and create problems for the opposition. "The performances have been much better than last season, but over the last three years we've started slow."
