David Moyes insists he will not buy players just because he can next month after Manchester United were linked with a flurry of big-name stars.
The United manager has the funds at his disposal to make major additions to his squad.
A big-money bid for Everton star Ross Barkley has already been suggested, while United have been linked with numerous others, including Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin, fullbacks Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw and even former Red Devils academy graduate Ravel Morrison, currently impressing at West Ham.
Yet Moyes has repeatedly urged caution, underlining the difficulty of signing players of quality in January, and the Scot has no intention of bringing in players purely to fill a gap.
"I won't do business for the sake of it," said Moyes. "I do feel that the market at the present time might be better suited to transfers in the summer, rather than January. It is not normally a month when the players you would choose to get will be made available by their clubs. We will always be looking to add players."
Moyes has no intention of feeding the frenzy of speculation that inevitably cranks up as the month continues.
"I won't be saying anything about it," he said. "Maybe other clubs will but not us. We will just go about our business and find out who we think is available."
Moyes' replacement at Goodison Park, Roberto Martinez, has already warned the Scot off Barkley and Baines, insisting neither will be leaving as Everton look to secure a place in next season's Champions League.
There is an option to bring some of his loan players back though.
Nick Powell and Jesse Lingard have been particularly impressive during their spells at Wigan and Birmingham respectively, while Ryan Tunnicliffe has been one of the inspirations behind Ipswich's rise into promotion contention in the Sky Bet Championship.
And should United's injury problems continue, all three could play some part for their parent club before their futures are resolved nearer the end of the window.
"We will consider bringing them back," said Moyes. "We only need extra bodies if the injuries keep going and we wanted to give the boys games. We are keeping our eye on them and know several are doing really well. At this club one of the jobs is to put young players in the team. We have already introduced Adnan (Januzaj). If I think the players are good enough we will introduce more."
