Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho responded to Pep Guardiola's attempt to downplay expectations for Barcelona this season with a good dose of sarcasm.
Guardiola, who has led Barcelona to 12 titles since arriving in 2008, had said the previous day that he ''never promised titles this year ... and it would be normal if we didn't win anything.''
''We are going to fight to not go down to the second division, we'll have to see if we can get 40 points and play in the topflight next season,'' Mourinho joked Saturday as Madrid prepared for Sunday's game at Levante.
The Portuguese coach included Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka in his squad for the trip to Valencia. Ronaldo hurt his right ankle in Wednesday's 1-0 Champions League win at Dinamo Zagreb while Kaka missed that game with a muscle injury.
Madrid has won both of its first two games and leads the standings on goal difference - two points better than three-time defending champion Barcelona.
Madrid and Barcelona have split the Spanish league title between them since 2004 and join Athletic Bilbao as the only three teams to never have been relegated from Spain's first division.
