Moratti: Fatigue to blame for slump
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has refused to lay the blame for the club's dip in form on manager Leonardo or any of the players.
But despite the poor results Moratti insisted everyone involved with the club is not panicking and that it is all down to the cumulative fatigue of Inter's squad.
"Of course, when you go through a rough patch all sorts of things get thrown into the equation - more by people on the outside," he told the club's official website.
"But I think we should see this moment we're going through for what it is - a drop in form caused by tiredness."
A mixture of mental and physical tiredness could be a factor in Inter's recent slide after they were fighting on three fronts and Moratti is in no doubt that his players are struggling.
"It's mainly physical fatigue, in my opinion, but you also get mentally tired when you can't keep up with things physically. That's why we haven't been good enough in recent games," he said.
Moratti also claimed he was happy with Brazilian coach Leonardo and that he had performed well up until the 3-0 derby defeat at the hands of Milan, this time citing the international break as a reason for burn-out.
"I don't think Leonardo has changed much. I think he did fantastically well up to the derby," he said.
"We expected a great result, but the big mistake was sending the players away to play with their national teams, and having them come back convinced they were still in peak form, when they were actually very tired."
Reports that Leonardo was due to be sacked in the summer, allowing a spectacular return to the San Siro for Jose Mourinho, were also rubbished by Moratti.
"I read about that in the papers, but there's nothing between Mourinho and the club," he said.
