Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has apologized for laughing during a minute's silence held in honor of flood victims.
Montolivo had a smile on his face when players gathered arm in arm at the center circle before Sunday's 1-0 loss at Chievo Verona.
Montolivo says on Fiorentina's Web site that he was trying to ease pre-game nerves and ''I didn't realize that the minute of silence had already started.''
He adds that ''there is no justification for such an inopportune gesture and therefore I want to apologize to the people who felt offended.''

The minute's silence was held before each Serie A match over the weekend in honor of the six people killed by flash floods in Genoa on Friday.
