Monaco striker Radamel Falcao looked to be closer than ever to joining Real Madrid on Saturday night.

The Colombian denied writing a Twitter message that read "Dream come true #HalaMadrid", and claimed it was a "photo montage."

The initial tweet appeared to have come from his official account and was widely circulated on the social network, retweeted by over 2,000 users prior to it being deleted. Falcao later added on his account: "I have to deny a story about a Tweet I didn't do and which is a photo montage."

Falcao, who joined Monaco from Atletico Madrid last summer, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Bernabeu this summer, but there has also been speculation of a switch to Barclays Premier League clubs including Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal prior to Monday's deadline day.

Should he complete a move to the Spanish giants, and reigning Champions League holders, Falcao would join an attacking line that already includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and his fellow Colombian, World Cup star James Rodriguez.

Falcao, who has recovered from a serious knee injury suffered in January, was omitted from the Monaco squad for Saturday evening's 1-1 draw at home to Lille in the French top division.
