Monaco signed France midfielder Jeremy Toulalan from Malaga on Saturday as part of its ongoing squad overhaul ahead of its return to France's topflight.
Monaco said on its website that Toulalan had agreed to a two-year contract with an option of a third year.
''We are happy with the signature of Jeremy,'' said Monaco's sports director Vadim Vasilyev. ''His skills, his European and international experience, will be an important asset for our team this season.''
The 29-year-old Toulalan was with Malaga for the last two seasons, helping it qualify for the Champions League for the first time when it reached the quarterfinals last campaign. Previously, he played for Nantes from 2001-06 and for Lyon from 2006-11, where he won the French league twice in 2007 and 2008 and the French Cup in 2008.
Neither club disclosed the financial details of the deal.
Monaco, promoted last season, has also brought in striker Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid, Porto pair James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho, and Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho. It is also linked to former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal.
Toulalan is the latest in a long list of players Malaga has sold during the past year, including Spanish internationals Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal to Arsenal. Malaga had also sold Francisco ''Isco'' Alarcon and Joaquin Sanchez this summer and had manager Manuel Pellegrini leave to take over Manchester City.
Malaga said in a statement that it ''wants to thank Jeremy Toulalan for being an example of professionalism and for his behavior, both on and off the pitch.''
