Modric hints at Lane departure
The Croatian star has been linked with some of Europe's top clubs but Spurs are eager to hold onto their star midfielder, with manager Harry Redknapp having described him as "irreplaceable". The 25-year-old, who last year extended his contract to 2016, expects to rejoin the Spurs squad ahead of their pre-season tour of South Africa. But it seems Tottenham fans can only be sure he will stay ay White Hart Lane next season once the transfer window slams shut. "I'm a Tottenham player and will be in London on July 7 to begin preparing for the season," he told the Daily Star. "But I want to say that transfers could occur later. "In England it is often the case they happen on the last day of the transfer period, August 31, so it is pointless to worry about anything now. "If my situation changes after the start of preparation it would not be a problem." Modric relished playing in the Champions League with Tottenham last term, catching the eye of Europe's top clubs. And United head the list of clubs ready to test Modric's desire to stay at Spurs after they failed to qualify for next season's competition. Chelsea, and Inter Milan have also been linked with the pint-sized playmaker.
