AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani insists the Rossoneri could not afford a move for Manchester City's wantaway striker Carlos Tevez.
Tevez has had a transfer request turned down by City, but Galliani admits the Serie A leaders would be unable to finance a similar swoop for the Argentinian star should City be willing to sell.
"Tevez is great but Milan can't make an investment like that," he said.
"If we find a forward who looks like a Milan player we will take him, otherwise we'll stay like this."
Milan were linked with Mario Balotelli after Galliani had dinner with the former Inter Milan striker during his recent return to Italy.
But Galliani insisted he would not be making a move for Tevez's City team-mate and that Cagliari's Alessandro Matri would be unlikely to arrive at the San Siro.
The Milan supremo was similarly downbeat about the chances of signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer but they managed to secure the Swedish star's services on a season-long loan deal.
Inter Milan have said they will look to sign at least one top player in January in a bid to revive their season and the treble winners have also been linked with Tevez.
