Ajax says Egypt striker Mido has asked to leave the club, just six months after signing from Middlesbrough on a free transfer.
Ajax said Tuesday it would work with the 27-year-old to scrap his contract, which runs until June, so he can move to another club.
Mido joined Ajax under coach Martin Jol, who he previously played for at Tottenham. Jol quit Ajax last month and was replaced by Frank de Boer.
Mido was left out of the Ajax first team early in the season and ordered to get into shape amid criticism that he was overweight. He was used largely as a substitute behind top strikers Luis Suarez and Mounir el Hamdaoui.
