Metapan continues Mexico's troubles
Paolo Suarez and Christian Bautista scored goals in each half as El Salvador club Metapan beat Santos 2-0 on Wednesday, moving about the Mexicans in Group B of the CONCACAF Champions League.
In other matches, Guatemalan champion Comunicaciones won 2-0 at home against Costa Rican side Herediano, while the game between Toronto and Dallas was suspended at halftime due to an electrical storm.
The results put Metapan ahead of Santos and into second place in Group B, one point behind Colorado Rapids, while Comunicaciones is in third place in Group D, level on points with second-placed Monterrey after two games.
In El Salvador, Suarez, who is the older brother of Liverpool and Uruguay international striker Luis, hit the first goal for Metapan in the 45th minute, with Bautista adding a second in the 52nd.
Santos continued its policy of selecting youth and reserve players for matches in the regional competition.
The game between Comunicaciones and Herediano was scheduled to be played Tuesday but was postponed due to heavy rain in Guatemala City.
Marvin Ceballos and Bryan Ordonez got late goals for Comunicaciones to put the Guatemalan club on three points, three behind leader Seattle.
Dallas was winning 1-0 in Toronto, but the fixture will be played again in its entirety on Thursday after an electrical storm caused the game to be suspended.
After a 40-minute delay, the players came back out onto the pitch and completed the first half but - after another long delay - the game was called off.
The top two teams in each of the tournament's four groups advance to the quarter finals of North and Central America's principal continental club competition.
