Lionel Messi has had scans on a foot complaint but is fine to feature for Argentina over the international break, the Argentinian Football Association has announced.

The four-time FIFA Ballon d'Or winner picked up a knock to his right foot during Barcelona's 2-1 win over Real Madrid in Sunday's El Clasico, but fears he would have to go back to the Catalan giants for recovery have been allayed by the AFA.

A short statement from the AFA read: "The Argentina team reports this morning that Lionel Messi was held at a private clinic in the city of Washington for medical tests on discomfort in his right foot suffered in the last game he played for Barcelona against Real Madrid. These test did not show any injury."

Gerardo Martino's side are in the United States for friendlies against El Salvador this Sunday and Ecuador on April 1.
