Uncertainty surrounds the defender's future after reports emerged that the Gunners have renewed their interest in the Germany international after failing to secure his services in January. Mertesacker's Bremen deal expires next summer and the club have revealed that initial talks with the stopper over a new contract have been dropped, although they have not ruled out reopening negotiations at a later date. The 26-year-old centre-back, who is currently sidelined with a heel injury sustained in May, has fuelled speculation he could make an English move by admitting the prospect of a foreign adventure appeals to him. "Obviously, from a certain perspective, the Premiership is a very tempting league to play in," he told Fifa's official website. "England is, alongside Spain, a better league than the Bundesliga and is made up of several top-class teams. This is very tempting. "A move to a foreign country will always enrich a player from a sporting and from a human perspective. "Playing in a foreign country makes you better, while living in a foreign country pushes you forward. Everyone tells you that all the time. "Things experienced there are important in life, (although) a way back to Germany should hopefully never be ruled out."
