McShane keen for Hunt to stay
Tigers winger Hunt has been the subject of three failed bids from Wolves this month and manager Phil Brown's resolve to keep him could be tested again before Monday's transfer deadline. Hunt has been one of Hull's most influential players since his arrival from Reading last summer and McShane does not want to see his fellow Irishman move on. McShane said: "He has done very well here, he has worked really hard and scored a few vital goals. "He gives 100% on the training ground and pitch and certainly gets his rewards from it. "I think he is a big part of the team and a great lad to have around the place. "He is full of enthusiasm and that rubs off on people. "If he wants to go he would be a big miss." Hunt, 29, has scored five goals this term and his whole-hearted performances have been a big hit with the Hull fans. But, encouraged by Hull's well-documented financial problems, Wolves have not let their interest in the player drop. Their latest bid of £4million was rejected earlier this week and the whole saga has added extra spice to tomorrow's Barclays Premier League clash between the relegation rivals at the KC Stadium. McShane at least is confident Hunt will not let the uncertainty affect his game. The 24-year-old right-back added: "He's been involved in transfer sagas before. "He knows how to deal with it and just lets it happen, doesn't let anything really bog him down or get in the way of his football. "I think they are just trying to nick one of our good players. "I don't really know what is going on, but he is fine about it. He is just letting it go over his head and is not getting unsettled by it." Hull and Wolves go into the game separated by just a point at the bottom end of the table. Hull have not won in eight games and McShane admits it is vital the team pick up points in their first home game of 2010. He said: "We haven't been at home for a good few weeks. Our home form this season has been decent so we are looking forward to playing at home again. "I think we are taking decent enough form into the game - the lads here have got good spirit and togetherness. "But we have got to start picking up points now." Hull had hoped the fixture would mark the return of midfield talisman Jimmy Bullard after almost two months out with a knee injury. But the club's record signing is still not back in full training and will not be risked. Tuesday's rearranged fixture with Chelsea is also likely to come too soon but next week's visit of Manchester City is a possibility. Manager Phil Brown said: "It is disappointing because I thought he could play some part in January. "But we have 16 games to go and when I bring him back I want him to play the remainder of the games. "We all want to see him play but I am not going to jump the gun and he gets injured again for 10 or 12 games. When he comes back it will be right for everybody." One player who could feature is new signing Amr Zaki, the former Wigan striker who has joined the club on loan from Egyptian side El Zamalek until the end of the season. Zaki made a huge impression by scoring 11 goals for Wigan last season but his time at the club ended on a sour note after a fall-out with then manager Steve Bruce. The 29-year-old is likely to be handed a place on the bench due to a lack of match fitness after a recent hamstring injury. Brown said: "He looks like he wants to play and has a point to prove. "We have competition for places on the front line and that competition needs to manifest itself in goals."
