McLeish expecting Pav price rise

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has suggested that he will not renew his interest in Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko this summer.

The Blues were linked with a swoop for Pavlyuchenko in the winter transfer window when his White Hart Lane career appeared to be coming to an end.

The Russian had been frustrated with his lack of opportunities during the first half of the season and Spurs were willing to listen to offers.

McLeish expressed his admiration for Pavlyuchenko but a move failed to materialise and it is now unclear whether the 28-year-old will leave Tottenham in the summer.

Pavlyuchenko has been in fine form in recent weeks and is not thinking of his future at the moment, while manager Harry Redknapp has praised his recent revival.

Blues boss McLeish admits it would now be difficult to afford Pavlyuchenko in the wake of his performances over the past few weeks.

"His price will have gone up," McLeish said in the Daily Mirror.

"I've given him too much confidence by saying I wanted him!"
