McInnes content with work-out
Two Rowan Vine goals in the first half were enough to secure victory for the Saints at McDiarmid Park, although City did press for an equaliser following Jon Stead's header shortly before the break. The hosts looked sharper in the early stages, with Vine's opener coming inside the first two minutes, while the City boss resisted the urge to use different starting line-ups in either half. "As we said prior to coming on the trip, the aim was making sure fitness levels were right for the games," McInnes told the club's official website. "The training camp was all about fitness but this is all about games and recovery. For all the work, we needed a game. "It wasn't the ideal start, St Johnstone wanted that scalp and we knew that. But we created a few chances and on another day we could have score a few. There is that temptation to go 45 and 45 with different teams but I felt it was important a lot of the players got some good game time and we looked strong for it." Meanwhile, McInnes revealed Albert Adomah played no part in the game due to a toe injury but said he should be fit enough to return for Monday's trip to Kilmarnock along with Liam Fontaine, who missed out with an Achilles problem.
