Former Tranmere Rovers striker Adam McGurk says he is hopeful of impressing whilst on trial with Birmingham City.

The 24-year old is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract, and he has been training with the Championship side in recent weeks, scoring in a 1-1 pre-season friendly draw against Oxford United.

McGurk spent three years at Tranmere after joining from Hednesford Town in 2010, but he admits he is now keen to play at a higher level

"I'd like to think that I played well for Tranmere. The majority of the last season we were probably the best team in League One, until the final two months," he told the Birmingham Mail.

The former Northern Ireland Under 21 international suffered a number of setbacks last season, including a collapsed lung, but he says he is now ready to work hard for his future.

He added: "My lung collapsing, towards the end of the season, that didn't help me, obviously. But I felt I did well and now I want to test myself and step up to the next stage.

"I think I can play anywhere across the frontline. Tranmere, the last two seasons, I've played wide. I came through my youth football playing centre-forward. I think you should be able to adapt.

"I am pretty comfortable playing anywhere, in the front third. I just graft wherever I get to play."
