With all the transfer speculation surrounding the Liverpool Football Club, the one player almost certain to grace the hallowed turf of Anfield is the Argentine midfielder Maxi Rodriguez.
The club's pursuit of creative talent has led Rafa Benitez back to Atletico Madrid, from where Fernando Torres was so successfully recruited.
Liverpool have coveted the talented Argentine who can play out wide as well as through the middle as a central attacking midfielder and with the completion of the transfer imminent, look to have got their man.
So what can the fans expect from Maxi? Well cast your mind back if you will to the 2006 World Cup where Argentina were locked in battle with Mexico. With the game in extra-time, Maxi took a cross from Sorin on the chest and from the corner of the box, unleashed an unstoppable volley into the top corner.
A quality goal that showed great technical ability that went on to become one of the goal's of the tournament.
But apart from that, Maxi has proved to be a leader on the pitch and was given the captain's armband after Torres' departure to the Reds. With an uncanny knack of making great runs into the box, the Argentine has shown that he has an eye for goal from midfield that the team from Anfield has been lacking in recent times.
If reports are true, that Liverpool have landed their man for a fee of £1.5m, then if he can re-produce the same form he does for Atletico and Argentina, then this shrewd bit of business could well prove to be the bargain of the January transfer window.
But the signing of Maxi Rodriguez has wider implications for the future of the current squad at Anfield and could finally end speculation that Javier Mascherano is ready to quit Liverpool for Spain.
As well as being international team-mates, Maxi Rodriguez and Javier Mascherano are good friends off the field and there is no doubt that one of the key factors in Maxi deciding that his future lay at Liverpool, was that his good friend and international captain was there.
The arrival of Rodriguez and his family would help Mascherano's family cement themselves in Liverpool, if rumours of his wife being unsettled are true.
There is no question that Maxi consulted Mascherano when deciding to moving to Anfield and without doubt his good friend gave Liverpool Football Club and the city itself a big thumbs up.
With a fellow Argentine and good friend now also plying his trade at Liverpool and this coming about following advice from Mascherano himself, it would be unlikely that the Argentine captain is now looking for pastures anew.
Liverpool's signing of Maxi Rodriguez has enormous positive long term implications for the team from Anfield. It not only brings in some much needed creativity into the midfield, but it also ends all speculation that Javier Mascherano is looking for an exit from Anfield.
