Nine-man Marseille salvaged a 1-1 draw with Evian in the French league on Sunday but lost ground in the title race.

Marseille forward Andre-Pierre Gignac took a pass from France midfielder Mathieu Valbuena and fired home a spectacular strike in the 52nd minute for his eighth goal this season.

Marseille defender Kassim Abdallah stopped a scoring chance by fouling Saber Khlifa in the 56th. He was sent off and Evian awarded a penalty that striker Yannick Sagbo converted.

Marseille lost another player in the 74th when Jordan Ayew picked up a second yellow card.
