Manchester City Transfer Watch: Consider Bonucci bid in January

Even with a perfect ten for ten start to the season, Manchester City are still looking to improve the squad, after nothing setback for Kompany.

To be fair I’m not sure many Manchester City fans would be complaining if transfer talk was not high on Pep’s list at the moment. The club are flying across all competitions and haven’t really had many negatives since the manager arrived in Manchester.

However, this past week towards the end of the EFL Cup victory over Swansea the captain suffered another issue. Vincent Kompany got his first action for City in nearly half a year, but failed to complete the match. It appears to be a new injury versus a reappearance of his calf issue.

Given Vincent’s injury issues over the past few seasons, if he doesn’t have a successful return before January expect reinforcements to arrive. The Manchester Evening News is reporting Leonardo Bonucci is the target at the moment.

The Juventus and Italian national team defender, at 29, isn’t any younger than Kompany, Kolorav or Otamendi. However, he has the quality to fit in with this high flying Manchester City side. Bonucci considered a summer move to the Etihad before re-signing with Juventus. However, given another chance and with City looking heading for one if not multiple titles, he may reconsider.

Outside of John Stones, the first team doesn’t have any young central defenders to build the future around. Expect that to be a problem solved after this season.

Loaning out Denayer to Sunderland looks even more odd now, as he would have been the perfect fit to backup Stones and either Kolorav or Otamendi.
