Man Utd winger Valencia 'to play in Copa America'

The Ecuadorean Football Federation says Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia will play in the Copa America despite rumors his club might veto his participation.

President Luis Chiriboga says the Copa America is a FIFA-sanctioned tournament which means each nation can insist on its players reporting for duty 15 days before the opening match.

Valencia will miss Ecuador's first two warm-up matches on May 28 against Mexico and June 1 against Canada because the games clash with the Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona.

Valencia returned to action in March after a six-month layoff with an ankle injury, prompting suggestions his club would prefer him to skip the Copa America.
