Manchester United defenders Rio Ferdinand and Rafael da Silva face long layoffs after both were hurt over the weekend.
Rafael will be out for the first 10 weeks of the season after he dislocated a shoulder in training. The Premier League champions say the Brazilian was hurt at their training facility before Sunday's opener against West Bromwich Albion.
Then during United's 2-1 victory, Ferdinand hurt his hamstring. Manager Alex Ferguson says he'll be out for six weeks.
Ferguson also says United could be without another center back, Nemanja Vidic, for two weeks after he injured his calf.
