The Premier League leaders took their tally for the season to 48 in just their 14th game as they hammered promoted Norwich 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon. City are well on course to break Chelsea's 2009-10 Premier League record of 103 but Platt insists that is not important. Platt said: "The goals are irrelevant as long as we get the points. "You hear things leading into the week, playing against a newly-promoted side - albeit one that have done quite well for themselves and are in a mid-table position. "People automatically assume now we are going to go out and get five, six, seven or eight goals against these teams. "To be honest, we would take one as long as there was no reply because that would get you three points all the same." City outplayed the Canaries but were frustrated before Sergio Aguero put them into the lead after some nimble footwork in a crowded area with 32 minutes gone. Only after the break did victory become convincing as a Samir Nasri free-kick drifted in and Yaya Toure struck a fine third. Substitutes Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson completed the rout late on after a Steve Morison consolation. Platt said: "I think full credit to them. "They got people behind the ball, they didn't want to open up too early. "It was always going to take a bit of brilliance in a tight area to open the game up. We know we have got that kind of player out there. "You can get frustrated sitting on the bench, think we have got to do this or that but I think it was just a matter of keeping moving the ball, keeping it shifting around and then eventually it was going to open up, by a bit of brilliance by somebody." Norwich boss Paul Lambert conceded his side were a distinct second best but at least felt his players gave a spirited performance. Lambert said: "They are a top, top side. Their movement is brilliant, first class. "But you don't help yourselves when you concede the goals we did. "The first goal was poor and the second one should never have gone in from that distance. "I won't blame individuals, we are a team, but I was glad we kept going. "How do you compete with that? But what my group have got is a great willingness to try to do well. "If you go and play them at their game they will pick you off all over the place because their movement is that good. "The gameplan worked to an extent but the second goal was really poor. "You hold your hand up. We were beaten by the better side but I am delighted we never folded." Norwich even had an opportunity to make life difficult for the hosts early in the second half when Elliott Bennett went through only to go wide and shoot over. Lambert said: "We had a great chance to make it 1-1. If we had taken it, I'm not saying we would have gone on to win it, but it would have given us that bit of belief."
