Adam Johnson scored in the first half and Manchester City held on to beat Blackpool 1-0 Saturday despite Carlos Tevez missing a penalty.
Johnson put the host ahead in the 34th with a low shot after Blackpool failed to clear a corner. Tevez then had a chance to double the lead just three minutes later but sent his spot kick wide left.
Tevez wasted a number of other good chances, the first after just 22 seconds when he seized on a poor back pass but sent his shot wide. The Argentina striker then failed to score into an open net after the break, slipping and falling after racing clear and rounding goalkeeper Richard Kingson.
The win puts City level on 41 points with Manchester United, but with worse goal difference and two more games played.
