Malaga has exercised its option to turn a loan deal for Portugal defender Vitorino Antunes into a permanent signing.
The 26-year-old left-back joined Malaga last season on loan from Pacos Ferreira and showed ''outstanding defensive reliability as well as a notable attacking presence,'' the club said in a statement Tuesday. His new contract runs until 2017.
Antunes, who turned pro at third-tier Portuguese club Freamunde in 2004, says he has ''confidence that next season with be even better.''
Malaga on Tuesday lost its appeal to overturn a UEFA ban disqualifying it from playing in next season's Europa League over unpaid debts.
