Leonardo Madelon took over as the coach of San Lorenzo on Wednesday, two days after Omar Asad resigned with the Buenos Aires club facing relegation to the second division.

Madelon is a former midfielder with the club and has coached several teams threatened with demotion, including Rosario Central, Olimpo de Bahia Blanca, Gimnasia y Esgrima, and Quilmes.

San Lorenzo is considered one of the ''big five'' in Argentine football along with Boca Juniors, River Plate, Independiente and Racing Club.

San Lorenzo has only 15 points from 15 matches, 18 fewer than league-leading Boca Juniors.
