Lyon fell to its first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 at home to Rennes on Saturday as Mehdi Zeffane set up the opener before scoring the winner against his former club.

Rennes took the lead in the eighth minute when Lyon defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa lost the ball just inside his own half and Zeffane set up Pedro Henrique, who raced into the area and fired across into the bottom right corner.

Lyon, last year's runner-up, reacted immediately and leveled four minutes later when Nabil Fekir's volley was deflected past Benoit Costil following a well-worked team move.

Zeffane, who progressed through the ranks at Lyon before moving to Rennes in the offseason, netted the winner 11 minutes into the second half with his first top-flight goal.
