Lyon focused on title charge
Lyon must go straight from a tough defeat away to Tottenham in the Europa League into a high-pressure trip to Bordeaux as they fight to stay in the Ligue 1 title race.
Gareth Bale's injury-time goal condemned Lyon to a 2-1 loss at White Hart Lane, but they have little time to sulk as they must recover from back-to-back league defeats if they are to keep Paris St Germain under pressure.
Those losses have seen them fall six points off the pace at the top, a gap they can ill-afford to see increase.
Although they came back from London after another loss, the Lyon players were adamant they had put in the kind of performance that can give them confidence after their domestic wobbles.
"We found our mindset and we must keep it in the league," said Milan Bisevac. "From here we can go with our heads held high."
Samuel Umtiti added: "We were solid defensively. We can take three points against Bordeaux by doing what we did here. It is a shame to have lost but we can take heart for the three points in the league this weekend."
Bordeaux, seven points behind Lyon in seventh place and in a huge scrap for the European places, have had wobbles of their own, losing to Ajaccio last weekend to tumble down the table from fourth, before a more creditable 1-1 draw away to Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League.
While Thursday's result looked good enough, midfielder Julien Faubert warned his team-mates that the result was better than the performance, and an improvement will be needed at the weekend.
"We did not play in a good way, we know that," he said. "We were very lucky, but we got the result. Against Ajaccio, we played well and we lost. Against Kiev we deserved to lose and we got the draw.
"We have not been great but in the end the result is satisfactory."
