Hearts boss Gary Locke says the form of youngsters Jamie Walker and Kevin McHattie shows the club's future is bright.

The teenage pair fired first-half goals in the Jambos' 3-0 win over St Mirren at Tynecastle, with Jamie Hamill converting a penalty after the break to seal a convincing victory.

The club have reported losses of ?1.65million for last season, with their overall debt standing at ?24.7m, but Locke was pleased with how his side are progressing on the pitch.

Locke said: "It was a great afternoon and a really pleasing performance.

"We knew there was going to be a big crowd. We had to be up for it and give the fans something to shout about.

"There's a lot of positive things at the club. We had 11 under-21s stripped today.

"The off-field stuff is not something that I really concern myself with. I concentrate on the football side of things. I am delighted for the backroom staff and all the people behind the scenes.

"We are thankful for the support we are getting from the fans and delighted to give them a good result today."
