Liverpool will play A-League side Melbourne Victory in a friendly on July 24 four days after its English Premier League rival Manchester United take on an all-star side at Sydney's Olympic stadium.

The visit will be Liverpool's first to Australia and is expected to attract more than 70,000 fans to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre said Wednesday ''we know we have a large fan base in Australia and New Zealand and this visit shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans.''

Victory coach Ange Postecoglou will also be in charge of the A-League all-stars who face Manchester United on July 20 in Sydney, where tickets at the 80,000-seat stadium have already sold out.
