Lippi selects 29-man squad for training camp
Italy coach Marcello Lippi selected a 29-player squad on Sunday for
a two-day training camp in Rome.
With just over a month until Italy begins the defense of its
World Cup title, Lippi will use the camp as one of his last chances
to evaluate which players he will take to South Africa as part of
his final 23-player squad.
Captain Fabio Cannavaro is one of nine Juventus players in
the training squad announced Sunday, and one of nine that took
Italy to glory in Germany in 2006.
Six strikers have been chosen, including leading Serie A
scorer Antonio Di Natale, AC Milan's Marco Borriello and
Sampdoria's Giampaolo Pazzini.
AC Milan veterans Gennaro Gattuso and Gianluca Zambrotta were
also included despite missing much of the season due to injury.
The squad will meet up on Monday, with training on Tuesday
and Wednesday. No players from Inter Milan or AS Roma were called
up as they are playing the Italian Cup final on Wednesday.
