Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott could miss the rest of the season because of a hamstring injury.
Lescott was hurt in the warmup for Sunday's Premier League win at Fulham, and City says he will be out of action for as long as six weeks.
City's final Premier League game of the season is May 9. England coach Fabio Capello would almost certainly leave him off his World Cup squad if he fails to return to action before then.
City is fifth in the standings with nine games remaining. It could move into the fourth Champions League spot on Wednesday with victory over Everton.
Lescott has already missed 12 games this season following surgery to remove a piece of bone from his foot.
