Leonardo leads Galaxy past Union 1-0

Brazilian defender Leonardo scored his first Major League Soccer goal to lead the Galaxy to a home win over the Union for the only winning result of Saturday's matches.

Leonardo headed in the lone goal in the box off David Beckham's free kick in the 33rd minute.

The Galaxy held on despite playing most of the second half a man down following a red card to midfielder Chris Birchall in the 53rd minute. Beckham earned a yellow card in the 90th for delaying play.

In other matches, New York Red Bull drew 1-1 with Houston Dynamo, Chivas USA drew 1-1 with Toronto FC, Sporting Kansas City drew 3-3 with Vancouver, the Portland Timbers drew 1-1 with the New England Revolution, and the Seattle Sounders drew the San Jose Earthquakes 2-2.
