The Pennines clash between Simon Grayson's Whites and Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils at Elland Road was the stand-out tie from Saturday's last-32 draw. Ferguson will be looking to avenge the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to the same side two years ago at Old Trafford when Leeds were in League One. Gus Poyet's Brighton, following their fine start to life in the Championship, were drawn at home to Liverpool at the Amex Stadium. Holders Birmingham, entering the competition at this stage because of their involvement in the Europa League, begin the defence of the trophy they won against Arsenal with a trip to face big-spending FA Cup winners Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Shrewsbury's reward for eliminating Swansea is a mouth-watering trip to the Emirates to face Arsene Wenger's Gunners. There are four all-Premier League ties with Chelsea at home to west London rivals Fulham, Aston Villa at home to Bolton, Stoke taking on Tottenham and Everton welcoming West Brom. Nottingham Forest will hope to upset Newcastle at the City Ground. Rochdale, winners against QPR, visit either Aldershot or Carlisle who will meet in a second-round tie held over as a consequence of the riots which caused numerous first-round matches to be put back. In the other matches, to be played in the week commencing September 19, Cardiff play Leicester, Wolves face Millwall, Burnley take on MK Dons, Blackburn are at home to Leyton Orient or Bristol Rovers, Swindon or Southampton face Charlton or Preston and Crystal Palace or Wigan are at home to Middlesbrough. Carling Cup third-round draw: Cardiff v Leicester Wolves v Millwall Chelsea v Fulham Aldershot or Carlisle v Rochdale Arsenal v Shrewsbury Burnley v MK Dons Leeds v Manchester United Brighton v Liverpool Nottingham Forest v Newcastle Manchester City v Birmingham Blackburn v Leyton Orient or Bristol Rovers Swindon or Southampton v Charlton or Preston Everton v West Brom Crystal Palace or Wigan v Middlesbrough Aston Villa v Bolton Stoke v Tottenham.
