Monaco left back Layvin Kurzawa has extended his contract for another five years.

Newly promoted Monaco spent about 170 million euros ($230 million) this summer, but the 21-year-old Kurzawa is a homegrown player and has made a bright start to the season.

The club announced the new contract on its website, without giving any financial details.

Kurzawa, considered one of the brightest prospects in French football, says ''I'm very happy with the faith the club has shown me.''

Vice president Vadim Vasilyev adds that ''it is fundamental for us to keep our promising young players.''

Monaco tops the French league and is two points ahead of big-spending rival Paris Saint-Germain after seven matches.
