Sydney FC says Czech-born head coach Vitezslav Lavicka, who led the team to the A-League title in 2009-10, will leave the club at the end of the season and plans to return to Europe.

Sydney chief executive Dirk Melton said on Friday that Lavicka's contract will not be renewed by mutual agreement. He will remain at the club until the end of the season, and no replacement has been named.

In 2010, Lavicka, the former Sparta Prague coach, was named coach of the year by Australia's Professional Footballers Association.

Lavicka's wife and two daughters have been living in Prague for the last year. Sydney said in a statement that Lavicka ''decided he wants to return home to be with his family and continue his career in Europe.''
