Latics won't sell star trio
The trio are all attracting strong interest but, Mauro Boselli aside, Whelan is not expecting any departures. Sunderland have rekindled their interest in N'Zogbia, while Villa are keen on Rodallega and Figueroa. However, Whelan says he fully expects to keep his current squad. "I'm not expecting us to sell anybody this month," Whelan told the Evening Post. "We've got a good squad here, although we're probably short of one striker. "But we've had two strikers injured recently so I think our squad will stay pretty much the same. "There's only money there if we sell someone, and I think you'll find that will be the case for most of the Premier League clubs. "The football clubs are now, I think, starting to come to their senses, and realising they can be no more borrowing, no more stupidity." Martinez has also dismissed reports linking Villa with Rodallega and Figueroa. "All these things are pure speculation," Martinez said. "I'm not going to comment on all the rumours - I'm just going to make sure the fans know about the situation that we are trying to make happen. "At the moment there is nothing in those rumours. We don't have to cash in. "We know what we have got and that is our biggest strength. We don't try to achieve something than is not realistic, but in the same way, our chairman (Dave Whelan) made it very clear - we don't need to sell any player to balance the books. "Every player has got a price, but in the January market you are not going to lose the best performers unless it is for the good of the team and that decision comes from the football club."
