Lambert leaves French soccer post for UEFA role

BY foxsports • November 26, 2010

Jacques Lambert has quit as a French Football Federation director to take up a new role helping UEFA organize the 2016 European Championship in France.

The FFF said in a statement Friday that Lambert's five-year stint was over and he would start his new role early next year, adding that UEFA President Michel Platini specifically wanted Lambert for the job.

Lambert played a key role in helping France win the right to host Euro 2016. He also headed the organizing committee for the 1998 World Cup in France.

Lambert's departure comes at a bad time for the FFF, which is rebuilding after the turmoil of this year's World Cup. The FFF was heavily criticized for failing to prevent the France squad from going on strike while training in South Africa.
