U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has made four changes to his lineup for Sunday's exhibition game against a second-string Germany team, starting right back Brad Evans, central defender Matt Besler and midfielders Michael Bradley and Fabian Johnson.
They replaced right back Geoff Cameron, central defender Clarence Goodson, and midfielder Sacha Kljestan and Brad Davis, who started in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Belgium in Cleveland.
Bradley and Johnson reported to the U.S. team during the week following the end of their club seasons in Europe.
Retaining their starting spots were goalkeeper Tim Howard; central defender Omar Gonzalez; left back DaMarcus Beasley; midfielders Jermaine Jones, Graham Zusi and Clint Dempsey; and forward Jozy Altidore.
Klinsmann played for Germany's last World Cup championship team in 1990 and coached Germany to the 2006 World Cup semifinals.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen started in goal in just his third appearance for Germany. He made his debut against Sweden on May 26 last year and entered against Argentina in August after Ron-Robert Zieler was given a straight red card.
Germany coach Joaquim Loew, Klinsmann's assistant before taking over in 2006, made four other changes from the lineup that defeated Ecuador 4-2 Wednesday at Boca Raton, Fla. Forward Miroslav Klose started along with midfielders Sven Bender, Stefan Reinartz and Andre Shuerrle. They replaced Heiko Westermann, Roman Neustaedter, Sidney Sam and Max Kruse.
The rest of the lineup included defenders Lars Bender, Per Mertesacker, Benedikt Hoewedes and Marcell Jansen; and midfielders Julian Draxler and Lukas Podolski.
Mertesacker was the only starter in the lineup from the March 26 World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. Germany was missing its players from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Stuttgart and Real Madrid.
Klose needed one goal to tie Gerd Mueller's German national team record of 68.
The U.S. is preparing for a trio of World Cup qualifiers: Friday at Jamaica; June 11 against Panama at Seattle; and June 18 versus Honduras at Sandy, Utah. The U.S. (1-1-1) is third in the six-nation final round of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean with four points, one behind Panama (1-0-2) and trailing Costa Rica (1-1-1) on goal difference. Honduras (1-1-1) is behind the U.S. on goal difference, while Mexico (0-0-3) has three points and Jamaica (0-1-2) two.
The top three nations qualify for next year's tournament in Brazil, and the No. 4 team faces Oceania champion New Zealand in a home-and-home playoff for another berth.
Germany next hosts Paraguay in an exhibition Aug. 14, then has World Cup qualifiers against Austria and the Faeroe Islands in September.
