South Korea midfielder Ki Sung-yueng has begun training with Celtic even though he cannot play for his new club until next month.

Ki trained with his new teammates for the first time in snow and ice on Thursday and says he expects to be playing in the Scottish Premier League by the middle of January.

The 20-year-old Ki is eligible to make his debut in the Jan. 3 match against fierce city rival Rangers but says he may not be fit enough by then.

Ki says he will play if manager Tony Mowbray wants him to but that "the season back home finished in November, so I need to build my body strength a bit more."

Ki joined from FC Seoul this month on a four-year contract.
