Kean won't rush new signings

Blackburn manager Steve Kean believes it could be up to three weeks before new signings Mauro Formica and Ruben Rochina are ready to play.

Formica, a 22-year-old forward, has joined from Argentina side Newell Old Boys in a deal thought to be worth £3.5million after Rovers snatched him from under the nose of Ligue 1 side Monaco.

And Rochina, 19, gives Kean another attacking option after being recruited from Barcelona's 'B' team.

Blackburn lacked sharpness in front of goal against Tottenham last night, despite Mame Biram Diouf and Jason Roberts both putting in hard shifts up front, Peter Crouch's fourth-minute goal proving the winner.

But Rovers fans will have to wait to see the new boys in action.

Kean, who is due to meet the club owners today before they fly back to India said: "The two players have only just arrived. Ruben came in on Wednesday.

"Formica arrived only a couple of days ago to start training. He has been off and had a break for five weeks. So I can see it being two or three weeks before they are involved."

Anuradha Desai, chairwoman of Venky's, the club's owners, took in a Blackburn match for the first time last night and was joined by her brothers Venkatesh and Balaji Rao in the directors' box.

Kean is confident they would have enjoyed the atmosphere.

He said: "I was pleased with the performance but disappointed with the result. We deserved a positive result of some description."

Kean will monitor the fitness of Jermaine Jones ahead of the Barclays Premier League match with Wigan on Saturday after he suffered a back spasm against Spurs.

Kean said: "He was not moving comfortably, so we took him off. You have to make sure he isn't out for a couple of weeks."
