Bundesliga leader Borussia Dortmund will have to do without Shinji Kagawa for the rest of the season after the Japan midfielder broke a bone in his right foot at the Asian Cup.
The club said an examination at a clinic in Duisburg on Thursday showed Kagawa will need an operation.
He was injured in Japan's semifinal win over South Korea at the tournament in Qatar.
He was one of the key players in Dortmund's outstanding first half of the season, but coach Juergen Klopp said the club has "alternatives."
