Jurgen Klopp insists he will not quit as manager of Borussia Dortmund after a 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen left his side second-bottom of the Bundesliga.

Bremen were bottom of the division prior the game at Weserstadion but moved above their opponents after racing into a two-goal lead through teenage striker Davie Selke and midfielder Fins Bartel.

Germany defender Mats Hummels gave Dortmund hope with a diving header but they could yet finish the year bottom of the league.

Klopp told German TV: "I am totally responsible and I am not just going to throw in the towel and follow everything from a distance. I can promise that we're going to put right what we've done wrong and we're going to be angry hunters. It's going to be far harder to beat us in the second half of the season."

Dortmund, who won their Champions League group, have secured just one victory in their last six Bundesliga games and sit second-bottom with only 15 points in 17 games.

Hummels: "We're all trying to work out what's behind it all," said defender Mats Hummels. "We've managed pretty well at home in recent weeks, but not at all away. It's pretty astonishing that we are so pathetic."

Klopp's side have shown two faces this season, marching into the last 16 of the Champions League while struggling to only 15 points in 17 Bundesliga games - just two more than they picked up in six European encounters.

"It was just a reflection of our whole season so far," Klopp said. "We had a very poor first half. It follows suit that we are standing here like total idiots."

He told Sky television: "I wouldn't write us off. We made too many mistakes and now we're there like idiots in the relegation zone. But we're not as bad as that. We have time now to recharge the batteries. We'll correct what we've messed up."
