Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones praised Steve Howard's tireless display up front in the 0-0 draw with Blackpool.

Wednesday had to settle for a point after Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks produced fine saves to deny Jermaine Johnson and Chris McGuire at Bloomfield Road.

Jones was delighted with Howard's hard work in attack and felt his side's efforts should have been rewarded with a goal.

"The big man [Steve] was superb, he's run himself into the ground on a pitch like that and he deserves all the credit," said Jones, whose side sit three points off the relegation zone.

"I asked him to do a job and he did exactly that. He won his headers, he ran his socks off and with JJ [Johnson] playing alongside him, we caused them problems.

"We could have had three goals in the first five minutes but the game settled down and the goalkeepers haven't had a lot to do.

"But listen, I am pleased with all of them. We will keep battling on, picking up points and we have another massive game on Saturday.

"We know we are not safe yet but we will be doing everything in our power to get out of trouble as soon as we possibly can."
